Student Virtual Seminar Series

COVID-19 has not only caused uncertainty and volatility across global financial markets and economies, but has also disrupted the college experience for many. To help you stay connected with other FMA members and financial professionals as well as keep current with financial topics, the Financial Management Association International will be hosting virtual seminars.

Hosted on Zoom, each seminar will consist of a presentation by a speaker followed by moderated Q&A.

Past Seminars

Wednesday, 22 April 2020 at 2pm EDT.

Speaker: Sam Stovall, Chief Investment Strategist, CFRA Research

Topic: The Three Rs: Retreat, Rally & Retest

The S&P 500 exhibited the glidepath of a crowbar earlier this year, falling into a bear market twice as quickly as in 1987. The market subsequently rallied more than 20%, causing some to think a new bull market is at hand. Yet history advises investors to expect a “retest” of the recent low. What’s more, no bear market in excess of 30% fully recovered in fewer than 18 months. Will history “repeat” and see the S&P 500 give up much of its recent gain, or “forget the words” and allow this uniquely swift bear to be followed by an equally surprising recovery? Sam Stovall, Chief Investment Strategist of CFRA and creator of the Pacer-CFRA Seasonal Rotation ETF (SZNE), will share CFRA’s investment outlook for the market, and identify which sectors, sizes and strategies are expected to lead the way.

Moderator: Rustin Yerkes, Associate Professor of Finance, Samford University; Student Chapter Committee Chair, Financial Management Association International

There will be a Q&A session following the prepared remarks.
