FMA International is pleased to announce its 15th Asia/Pacific Conference at Massey University in Auckland, New Zealand. FMA’s Asia/Pacific Conference brings together academicians and practitioners with interests in financial decision-making and provides a forum for presenting new research and discussing current issues in financial management and related topics. 

Presentations of research papers, panel discussions, tutorials, and exhibits will begin Thursday morning and end Friday afternoon. The Doctoral Student Consortium (by application) will be held on Wednesday, 2 December.

The editors of Financial Management (FM), the flagship journal of FMA International, will be apprised by the conference program committee of papers that the committee assesses to be of particularly high-quality.  In select cases, the editors will “lightly solicit” papers for submission to FM by offering fast-turnaround, high-quality reviews, waived initial submission fees, and enhanced marketing of papers that are eventually accepted through this submission route. Referees for “lightly-solicited” papers will be made aware that the paper was invited for submission by the editors.  While these invitations do not promise eventual publication of papers in FM, the invitations are only offered to a small number of papers each year that the respective FMA conference program committees identify as likeliest to clear the bar for publication in FM without major revisions.

Stephan Siegel
Professor of Finance & Business Economics
Michael G. Foster Endowed Professor
University of Washington

A native of Hamburg, Germany, he earned a B.S. from the University of Bayreuth, Germany, and a Ph.D. in Finance from Columbia University in the City of New York. Prior to his graduate studies, Stephan worked in Europe and China as a project manager with GCI Management, Munich, an international private equity and management consulting firm. Stephan’s research interests are in international finance as well as household finance. Together with his co-authors, he has examined the globalization of financial markets, the integration of European capital markets, and most recently the pricing of political risk. Stephan’s research in household finance has pioneered the use of genetically informed data to explore biological predispositions with respect to risk taking and investment biases. Most recently, he has explored the role of the cultural transmission of preferences about risk and uncertainty. His research has been published in a large number of academic journals as well as covered by leading news organizations, including, the Economist, the Wall Street Journal, and the Financial Times. 

Doctoral Student Consortium on Wednesday, 2 December 2026

The Doctoral Student Consortium, coordinated by Professor Bo Bian of the University of British Columbia, includes a panel session with distinguished scholars discussing the latest advances in research and offering career advice. The afternoon breakout sessions give participants the opportunity to present job market papers or dissertation proposals and receive feedback from the faculty and panelists. The closest airport is Auckland Airport (AKL). It is a major hub in New Zealand and served by many domestic and international flights.

Getting to the Venue
From Auckland Airport
Auckland Airport is approximately a 45-minute drive from the campus, depending on traffic conditions.

From Auckland CBD
The Auckland CBD is approximately a 20 - 30 minute drive from the campus outside peak traffic periods. Delegates can also use travel by public transport using Auckland's Northern Busway services, which provide frequent connections between the city centre and Albany. 

Public Transport
The campus is well served by Auckland Transport (AT) buses. Bus services operate between Albany Bus Station and the university, with stops directly inside the campus. Delegates can use contactless payment methods or purchase an AT HOP card for convenient travel throughout Auckland. 

Accommodations
Delegates may wish to stay in Albany, which is the closest accommodation hub to the conference venue and offers a range of hotels and serviced apartments within a 5-10 minute drive of the campus. As Albany is a popular business and educational precinct, delegates are encouraged to book accommodations early.

Takapuna, in particular, is a vibrant seaside destination with easy access to both the Albany campus and Auckland's city centre, while Browns Bay and Mairangi Bay offer a more relaxed atmosphere and beautiful beaches. All of these areas are within approximately 20 minutes' drive of Massey University's Albany campus.
