The editors of Financial Management (FM), the flagship journal of FMA International, will be apprised by the conference program committee of papers that the committee assesses to be of particularly high-quality.  In select cases, the editors will “lightly solicit” papers for submission to FM by offering fast-turnaround, high-quality reviews, waived initial submission fees, and enhanced marketing of papers that are eventually accepted through this submission route. Referees for “lightly-solicited” papers will be made aware that the paper was invited for submission by the editors.  While these invitations do not promise eventual publication of papers in FM, the invitations are only offered to a small number of papers each year that the respective FMA conference program committees identify as likeliest to clear the bar for publication in FM without major revisions.

Best Discussant Awards

We are pleased to announce Best Discussant Awards will be presented for the 2026 FMA Annual Meeting.

Three awards will be awarded, one for each day of paper presentations. The awards are designed to recognize discussants that provide outstanding discussions of papers presented at the Meeting. An outstanding discussion is one that is clear, constructive, and provides valuable feedback for improving and understanding the contribution of the paper in a way that is understandable to the audience and not demeaning to the authors. Each of the three awards will carry a $500 USD monetary prize.

Award Process

At the conclusion of the Annual Meeting, FMA will email all meeting attendees to ask for nominations for the awards. The nomination will only need to include the discussant's name and the paper title or name of the presenting author whose paper they discussed. Nominees will be contacted and asked to provide their discussant slides. An award committee will use the slides, together with the number of nominations, the source of the nomination (e.g., an author nominating his or her discussant for the award would get more weight), and any first-person attendance at the discussion to determine the award recipients.

Award winners will be announced in Winter 2026.

You are invited to discuss a paper at the conference and to compete for these awards. To apply as a paper discussant, please click here. Session organization will begin in Summer 2026.
